In the video clip below Tony Massie, a Celtic Soccer Academy coach, leads a Forward Pass drill as part of his Attacking in Congested Areas demonstration. Coach Massie is an experienced coach in youth and academy soccer with his current role as the International Soccer Academy Manager for Celtic Football Club.
This drill is set up with three different teams of colors in a large grid or half of a field. There are four small goals set up in the corners of the grid. Each team starts with passing and moving inside the grid. Coach Massie then adds two different passing patterns and combinations that he wants each team to do. The first is a forward pass where one player from each team must receive the ball in the middle of the grid and then does a 1-2 combination pass before going to score in the closest small goal. The second is a combination pass where one player must receive the ball in the middle of the grid and then makes a quick forward pass to one of their teammates to score in the closest small goal.
This drill was part of a presentation that Coach Massie shared at a Glazier Soccer Clinic. To gain access to his entire presentation and hundred of other clinic presentation click the link Glazier Clinics Vault. If you are interested in attending a clinic click here to find one near you.
