Sometimes as coaches we work on so many fundamentals, but neglect one very important skill – shooting. Players need multiple repetitions getting shots on goal if you expect them to execute in the match. Preferably the shots on goal are taken in game like situations.
The drill below is from SoccerClinics.com and is called the Chelsea Mannequin game. In the drill a player passes the ball to a teammate that has his back to the goal and pretending to be defended by a mannequin. The player receives the ball and then spins out to one side and then attacks one of two goals. A variation of the drill is presented by having the teammate that receives the first pass dropping it back to his teammate, who then passes it forward to him so that he can attack and score at one of the goals. Of course, you could choose to use another defender instead on a mannequin. A little imagination and you could make changes to this drill to fit your needs.
